Rhizopogon rubescens Tul. Fruit body 1.5-6cm across, generally a lumpy potato shape; at first white, but the surfaces above ground take on a greenish-olive color in age, distinctly reddening when handled. Spore mass white at first, then olive-buff as it matures, staining reddish when cut; finely granular. Odor slight. Taste slight. Spores fusoid to subfusoid, 6-10 x 2.5-4.5µ. Habitat under conifers, especially under pine. Frequent. Found throughout North America. Season July-November. Not edible. |
